Song Young Wild and Free - Scotty Welch, Chris Sturm, Kenney Shields

My first official blog entry starts with a bang. A trip back 19 years to Highlands High School playing rock band. Scotty Welch proves a pack a day gives you a rock star voice. Kenney makes the guitar move and I prove that I have no rhythm on keyboards. Recorded with no fancy equipment this will bring back memories of High School fun for everyone who listens.

Since I am still learning please forward this link to your friends on facebook, etc to create a following. It is going to be fun. Follow this blog by pushing the easy links on the right. I have many more songs and I expect to be uploading more submitted by you as you find them.

Life is too serious. Let's have fun, share and celebrate. Please start your comments as the memories flow.

Chris,

I just had a flashback to your rock band playing a gig at the high school in the small gym. People were packed in, dancing and gyrating as the girls screamed and your fellow football players barked out your name. It was impressive and humid...the sweat from the dancers was dripping down the walls of the gym. It looked like you were having a blast and brought everyone along with you.

Paul, i have a device that converts tapes to digital so I have a bunch of old songs and I am inviting others to submit their songs and we will put them up here. You could still be a rock star on the web.

Chris,
Many Leadership KY alumni are great musicians as well. I hope some of them will see this and post some "old music" of their own. The 2005 class actually had a band of class members who played each session.

actually, scotty wrote the lyrics, showed them to me at a high school basketball game at nku, he came back to my house and i just started playing random chords - it was like magic - he just started singing it exactly like the song was recorded and everything i played matched his melody! it was truly one of the most amazing musical moments in my life, like how led zeppelin supposedly wrote "stairway to heaven" in 15 minutes, "young, wild, and free" was completed in the same amount of time. chris later added the keyboard/piano and the song turned out pretty good. oh, and on our crude recording, which actually turned out sounding pretty awesome, i had no idea what i was playing for the lead guitar part (i can't play lead guitar to this day) - once again, it was like divine intervention or something cause i actually pulled it off without ruining the song.

chris, thanks for posting this! did scotty get this email? and i also like anonymous' idea to put one of our sturm, shields, and stricker songs on here!
